Butoh on avantgardistinen nykytanssin muoto, joka kehitettiin Japanissa. Ensimmäisen kerran sitä esitettiin 1959. Siinä yhdistyvät tanssi, teatteri, improvisaatio ja sekä japanilaisen perinteen esittävistä taiteista että saksalaisesta ekspressionistisesta tanssista ja performanssitaiteesta saadut vaikutteet. Tanssin kehittivät Kazuo Ohno ja Hijikata Tatsumi.

Butoh is the collective name for a diverse range of activities, techniques and motivations for dance, performance, or movement inspired by the Ankoku-Butoh movement. It typically involves playful and grotesque imagery, taboo topics, extreme or absurd environments. There is no set style. Its origins have been attributed to Japanese dance legends Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno.

Opettajana tavoitteenani on kohdata ihminen: valjastaa ihmisen fyysiset ja emotionaaliset mahdollisuudet erityisellä ja rikkaalla tavalla, mahdollistaa ihmisen omuus. Jokainen ihminen ja jokainen hetki on lopultakin erityinen. Maailma kasvaa aistien herkistymisen myötä. Aistin, liikun, tanssin, olen, elän.

As a teacher, my aim is to contact the essence of the student, to tap into his embryonic and latent source. As every human being is a singular creation, the copycat syndrome and the clone division must be avoided at all cost. Butoh helps in liberating the conformist person. Ultimately, both the student and the spectator will feel enlightened by the following credo:
I sense, I move, I dance, I exist, I am.
